Photography 15 - Visual Literacy
Fall 09

     This course is designed for the student who already has basic experience in photography and the darkroom. We study the nature and function of photography as language and personal development; it's use in communication and expression, visual literacy, and the history of photography.
       How concept, design, and making of the photographic image are utilized in our culture, as we continue exploration of methods and processes involved in black and white photography.
       The teaching methods employ hands-on experience, information from text, lecture, and group learning to solve picture taking and laboratory problems. Extensive sharing your work and group discussion in class is required.

Current Assignment & information

     This week we’ll critique Project 2. I must admit I was pleased with most of the print quality I saw. There was a marked improvement over the last project, but frankly I expected that. Now we start the tedious task of refinement.
     We’ll take the full two hours to critique and I’m not sure we will finish in one session. If that is the case we may have a lap over some of you. In that case I will tell you what you got on the project, but I won’t give you back your print or your evaluation.  You’ll just have to wait a week. Sorry.   I’ll do my best to get us all done in one sitting but it will be a challenge.
     Get busy on Project 3 and remember your Midterm is coming in two weeks!!!
